* Basking Shark washed up dead
Image (c) l raymond
Cocooned in over 30 meters of fine mesh fishing net a twelve and a half foot juvenile male Basking Shark was found stranded on a sandbank in a Devon River on Monday (June 3rd) morning.

The condition of the shark indicated it had only recently died.

The Shark Trust is gravely concerned over this incident, more so as there have been reports of a number of illegally set net in the local area.Image (c) l raymond

Basking Sharks are vulnerable to the increasing intensity of activity in our inshore waters. The Shark Trust encourages fishermen and water users to report any incidents of entanglement or boat collision so that the full extent of this problem can be assessed and mitigation measures sought.

Dead or alive the Shark Trust welcomes any Basking Shark sightings that you can provide. To report a sighting Click Here
